Daniel Carney, the son of a British diplomat, was born in Beirut in 1944. He grew up in the Far East and was educated in England. He travelled extensively around the world before settling in Rhodesia in 1963, where he joined British South Africa Police. After more than 3 years of service in a remote areas of Rhodesia, he resigned to embark upon a business career. Daniel was a writer, known for The Wild Geese (1978), The Night of the Askari (1976) and Wild Geese II (1985). Daniel died on 6 January 1987 in Harare, Zimbabwe.
