Decades into a bleak future, humanity has been driven to the brink of extinction by monstrous creatures called Aragami, and a spreading, corrosive ash now blankets much of the world in deadly, uninhabitable Ashlands. Survivors huddle in isolated underground ports defended by Adaptive God Eaters, specialized warriors able to withstand the ash and wield transforming living weapons called God Arcs, yet often treated as little more than expendable hounds. The story follows a young God Eater and their close companions who, after being abandoned by their port, take to the crawler of a sympathetic captain and set out across the Ashlands, facing ever more dangerous Aragami and uncovering hopes of reclaiming the ravaged world.
