Fight goblins, orcs, skeletons, giant spiders and all sorts of underworld creatures using melee and ranged weapons. Jump over lava pits and spike traps. Level up your character's abilities and choose between 3 levels of difficulty, from casual to hardcore.

The combat can get repetitive, the jumping is awful, and the difficulty ranges from extremely easy to extremely hard. Despite these faults there is still plenty enjoyment to be had in the game, along with a jenesequa that kept me trying again and again.

As mentioned, you’ll come across treasure chests, but I couldn’t help but laugh at the contents – the food is always the same steaming pre-cooked meal, as if in this world the treasure chests are actually fancy microwaves.

With bland enemy and boss encounters, a wonky progression system, and three difficulty options that steadily ramp the challenge and replayability if only because they punish failure more stringently, one would do wise to steer clear of Crypt of the Serpent King unless they are dying to spend the three dollars. Mind you, you’ll definitely get what you’ve paid for with that money, but there are other action-based, first-person Role-Playing Games out there that do the job better than this. While the game is an admirable attempt to create a continuously-rewarding experience, those rewards deplete within an hour of booting up the title.
