Brass Tactics is a real-time strategy (RTS) game designed exclusively for virtual reality (VR), developed by Hidden Path Entertainment. Set in a steampunk-inspired world, players command massive armies from a tabletop-style battlefield, using intuitive hand gestures to deploy troops, build structures, and execute tactical maneuvers.

GamingTrendAug 201880/100As I said before, the game itself isn't new but the variations of units you can achieve with the custom rosters and upgrades coupled with the VR experience of feeling like you are part of the action really make Brass Tactics an enjoyable time. It would be nice to create larger armies and one way to accomplish that is with the tier 3 units as they do not count towards the unit cap. However, once you are able to construct those units you have effectively reached the end game of a given match. The maps are well done in terms of immersion for the VR element but they are rather straightforward in terms of "there is the enemy, attack". Having more in depth maps that boast tactical positions that could be fought over whether it would provide a resource or military advantage would add another enjoyable element to the game.

Just Push StartJack BoughtonMar 20183.8/5All things considered Brass Tactics is the best RTS game for VR right now; compared to other offerings it retains much more of the depth and complexity which makes the genre so beloved by many. That said it doesn't quite have the gameplay detail of the beloved giants of the genre in the non-VR space, and other niggles like the lack of coop or the shortness of the campaign keep the game from true greatness. While it may not be remembered as fondly as Age of Empires 2 it will probably be remembered as the first RTS to really do VR right, and that's still pretty good.

DestructoidPatrick HancockMar 20186/10The game looks great -- it's awesome to get down on the ground level and watch the little dudes duke it out. Even the maps themselves look incredible. But once the novelty of "it's in virtual reality!" wears off, you are left with a mechanically-solid RTS game with a poor story, that lacks specific commands veterans will expect, and has what is likely a very small community.
